Summary

A user panel is one you build yourself, holding whatever mix of MoBar tools, your own scripts and After Effects commands you want. They sit below the main categories and dock like any other panel.

Create a user panel

A new user panel starts empty, with just an Add New Items button. Click it and start adding what you want.

Fill it with what you use

A user panel takes any item type: expressions, scriptlets, commands, script files, effects, presets, extensions, MoBar tools and dividers. See Adding New Items.

There's no rule about what belongs together. A panel per project type, per client, or one holding the twenty things you use daily all work.

Three ways to open a panel

  • Click the panel icon and it opens as a popup. The popup closes as soon as you run a tool or click elsewhere in After Effects.
  • Detach opens the same window, but it stays on screen until you close it.
  • Dock opens it as a real After Effects panel, which you can dock into your workspace or leave floating. See Dockable Panels.
💡Only the Dock version can be edited. In the popup and detached windows you can run tools, but not reorder or delete anything.

Edit the items inside

Open the panel with Dock, then drag items to reorder them and right-click any item to edit or delete it, exactly as on the main panel.

Rename a panel or change its icon

The pencil icon in a user panel's title bar opens the Edit Panel window, where you can change its name and icon.
