Key Combinations

⌨️ ⌘/Ctrl + click reverses selected layers order
Shift + click orders layers by selection
Alt + click orders layers at random

Scope Options

  • All Layers: orders every layer in the composition based on your criteria. Locked layers keep their place
  • Selected Layers: orders only the layers you've chosen
  • Auto-close: closes the window after the layers are ordered

Buttons

  • Selection Order: orders the selected layers in the order you selected them
  • Reverse Order: reverses the stacking order of the layers
  • Alphabetical: orders by layer name, A to Z. Numbers in names count as numbers
  • Random Order: shuffles the layers into a random order
  • Layer In Point: orders by in point, earliest on top
  • Layer Out Point: orders by out point, earliest on top

How to use

  1. Select the layers you want to order on the timeline first
  2. Run the "Order Layers" tool
  3. Choose the scope, then click one of the six buttons
  4. You can order the layers based on their selection order, in/out points, names, or even at random
