Key Combinations

⌨️ ⌘/Ctrl + click takes quick screenshots without UI based on last settings

Options

  • Format: This feature offers you two choices: PNG and JPG. The PNG format is natively supported and doesn't require any additional steps. However, if you prefer to use the JPG format, you'll need to create a specific output format. For a step-by-step guide, kindly refer to the link provided https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xk7dNHbiYw
  • Resolution: You have the flexibility to select the desired resolution. The available options are full, half, or third
  • Scope: Choose which frames get exported. 'Active Comp - Current Frame' saves the frame at the playhead. 'Active Comp - Marked Frames' saves one image for every marker on the comp, which is a quick way to export a set of key poses in one go. 'Selected Comps - Current Frame' saves the current frame of each composition you have selected in the Project panel. 'Selected Comps - Marked Frames' saves one image for every marker of every selected composition, and passes over compositions without markers
  • Naming: Choose how the files are named. You can use the 'Comp Name' on its own, or combine it with the frame number, the project name, or both. Choose 'Custom Pattern' to build your own name from tokens
  • Pattern: Only appears when Naming is set to Custom Pattern. Type your own naming pattern, or click the first ▼ button to insert tokens from a list. The second ▼ button lists your recent patterns. Hover the field to preview the exact file name your pattern will produce
  • Export to: You can select the destination where you want to save the screenshots
  • If file exists: Choose what happens when a file of the same name is already there. 'Increment' adds -01, -02 and so on, so nothing is ever replaced. 'Overwrite' replaces the existing file

The status bar at the bottom of the window shows the name of the next file while you set things up. After each export it shows what was saved, with a Reveal button that opens the file in Explorer or Finder.

Examples

These assume a composition named Animation at frame 34, in a project named Launch.

  • $comp-$frame: Animation-0034.png
  • $prj-$comp-$frame: Launch-Animation-0034.png
  • $comp-$marker: Animation-impact.png
  • $comp-$nnnn: Animation-0001.png, Animation-0002.png and so on
  • $YYYY-$MM-$DD/$comp-$frame: saves into a folder named 2026-09-08
  • $comp/$DD$MMM-$HH$mm: saves into a folder named Animation, as 08Sep-1504.png

The marker example only fills in when you export Marked Frames and the marker has a comment. The counter example numbers files in the order they are written, which is useful when you want a clean sequence rather than frame numbers.

How to use

  1. Select the desired options such as format, resolution, scope and naming
  2. To export at markers, add comp markers with * on the numpad, then set Scope to 'Active Comp - Marked Frames' or 'Selected Comps - Marked Frames'
  3. Click on the export button to capture the screenshot
  4. Use Reveal in the status bar to find the exported files
