Timing

  • Offset: the time between one group and the next, in "Frames" or "Seconds"
  • Group size: how many groups share one step. With 1, every group gets its own step
  • Spacing: "Linear" uses equal steps, "Ease In" starts with small steps and "Ease Out" starts with big steps
  • Jitter: adds or takes away up to this many frames from each step, at random. 0 turns it off

Mode

  • Group by: what moves together. "Property" treats the keys of each property as a group, "Layer" treats all selected keys of a layer as a group and "Key label" groups all keys with the same label color, across layers
  • Mode: "Stagger" lines the groups up at the earliest key, then steps them. "Add to current" steps each group from where it is and keeps its timing. "Sequence" starts each group one step after the last one ends
  • Start at the playhead: the first group starts at the current time. Works with "Stagger" and "Sequence"
  • Auto-close: closes the window after the keys move

Methods

  • Ascending: the top layer's group goes first, then down the layer stack
  • Descending: the bottom layer's group goes first, then up the layer stack
  • Random: the groups go in a random order

How to use

  1. Select the keys you want to offset
  2. Set the Offset value in frames or seconds
  3. Choose what moves together in Group by, and how the groups are placed in Mode
  4. Click Ascending, Descending or Random to apply the offset

Note

💡 "Key label" in Group by needs After Effects 22.6 or later. Results show at the bottom of the window
