💡 MoBar requires After Effects 2021 or later.

Summary

MoBar installs as a ZXP extension for After Effects. The recommended way to install it is with the free ZXP/UXP Installer from aescripts + aeplugins, and it takes about two minutes. If that doesn't work on your machine, there's a manual method below.

Get the download

Grab the latest version of MoBar below. The same download works for both the free trial and the full version.

Install with the ZXP Installer (recommended)

⚠️ Use the aescripts + aeplugins installer. Adobe's own ZXP installer is outdated and often fails.
  1. Unzip the MoBar download from above, so you have MoBar.zxp in a folder you can find easily.
  2. Download and install the free ZXP/UXP Installer from aescripts + aeplugins.
  3. Open the ZXP/UXP Installer.
  4. Drag MoBar.zxp into the window, or open it from the File menu.
  5. Wait for the confirmation message.
  6. Restart After Effects.

Manual installation

💡 Only use this method if the ZXP Installer fails.
  1. Rename MoBar.zxp to MoBar.zip, then unzip it to get a folder named MoBar.
  2. Move the MoBar folder to the Adobe extensions folder for your system:
    • PC: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\
    • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/
  3. Restart After Effects.

Open MoBar and finish setup

  1. Open After Effects and go to Window > Extensions > MoBar.

  1. If MoBar shows a warning about script permissions, go to After Effects > Settings > Scripting & Expressions (Windows: Edit > Preferences > Scripting & Expressions) and tick "Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network".

How do I unzip a file

On Windows, right-click MoBar.zip and choose "Extract All". On Mac, double-click the zip file and it extracts automatically.

I can't see file extensions

On Windows, open File Explorer, click the View tab, and tick "File name extensions". On Mac, in Finder go to Settings > Advanced and tick "Show all filename extensions".

The installer says installation failed

Make sure you unzipped the download first. Dragging MoBar.zxp straight out of a zip is the most common cause. If it still fails, use the installer's custom install option, or follow the manual installation steps above.

MoBar isn't in the Window > Extensions menu

Restart After Effects. If it was open during the install, the extension won't appear until you relaunch it.

One of my folders is missing

If the extensions folder doesn't exist at the path above, create it yourself: add a folder named "extensions" in the CEP folder, then move MoBar into it.

I don't have admin access

If you don’t have admin access, manually install the extension by copying files to the user path instead of the system path:

  • PC: C:\Users\*username\*AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP\extensions\
  • Mac:  ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/
