Add

  • Prefix: Text added before each name
  • Suffix: Text added after each name
  • Insert: Text put inside each name at the position in at pos:. 1 is before the first character, 0 is at the end, and a negative position counts from the end

Replace

  • Find: The text to look for in the names
  • Replace: What the found text becomes
  • Match case: Finds only text with the same capitals

Number

  • Name: "Original" keeps each name and adds a number. "New name" shows a box for a new name that every item gets, followed by its number
  • Sep: The separator between the name and the number. Type one, or click the ▼ to pick one
  • Start: The first number. The digits you type set the padding: 01 gives two digits, 001 three
  • Step: How much the number grows from one item to the next
  • Position: After name or Before name
  • Order: The order the items are numbered in: A-Z, Z-A, Old (oldest first) or New (newest first)
  • Replace old number: Removes a number the name already has on the chosen side before adding the new one, so Line-05 becomes Line-01

Clean

  • Strip: Extension turns hero.png into hero. Copy suffix turns Sky 2, Sky copy and Sky (2) into Sky. End number turns Line-07 into Line. Spaces removes spaces at the start and end and doubled spaces
  • Remove: Cuts a number of characters from the start (first) or from the end (last). 0 is off
  • Range: Cuts the characters from one position to another, counted from 1. 0 is off
  • Case: "Same", "lowercase", "UPPERCASE", "Title Case" or "Sentence case"

Pattern

  • Pattern: Builds every name from text and tokens. Click the ▼ on the left to insert a token, or the ▼ on the right for your recent patterns. A token that has no value for an item is left out

  • $name: Item name
  • $folder: Folder it is in
  • $res: Size, such as 1920x1080

Options

  • Update expressions: Updates expressions that use the renamed items. This may slow the rename slightly
  • Include other items: When off, only compositions are renamed. When on, selected folders, solids and footage are renamed too. Footage files on disk keep their names

How to use

  1. Select the compositions you want to rename in the Project panel
  2. Run the tool and pick a tab: Add, Replace, Number, Clean or Pattern
  3. Fill in the tab. The list shows each name under Current and what it will become under New
  4. Click Rename
  5. The window stays open. To combine two operations, switch to another tab and click Rename again

Note

💡 Each tab is one operation, and only the tab you are on is applied. The ▼ next to a text box lists your recent entries
