Summary
MoBar's main panel holds your tool categories, your own custom panels and the settings. This page names each part, and the articles under Using MoBar go deeper on each one.

Main panel
The main panel is the one you open from Window > Extensions > MoBar. Everything else in MoBar runs through it, so keep it open while you work. It can be docked or floating, horizontal or vertical.
💡 Keep the main panel open. Category and user panels rely on it to run their tools, and won't work without it.
Search
Search finds any tool by name without opening a category first. Start typing and results appear as you go.
Main categories
The 12 main categories group tools by theme, so you can find what you need by area of work rather than by name. Each category has its own page in this documentation, listing every tool inside it.

Category menu
Clicking a category opens its menu, listing the tools inside. Click any tool to run it.
Three icons sit in the menu's title bar:
- Help opens the documentation for that category
- Dock turns the menu into a panel you can dock in your workspace. See Dockable Panels
- Detach floats the menu freely on screen
Click the star next to any tool to add it to your favourites, which sit on the main panel for one-click access.

User categories
Below the main categories you can build your own. A user category holds whatever you put in it: your scripts, expressions, effects, presets, other extensions, and MoBar tools.
Like main categories, a user category opens as a panel you can dock or detach, and the pencil icon in its title bar lets you rename and edit it. See User Panels.

Add new items
Add New Items opens a menu of everything you can add: an expression, a scriptlet, a command, a script file, an effect, a preset, an extension, a MoBar tool or a divider. See Adding New Items.

Tool information
Hover any tool to see what it does. On the main panel in vertical mode you get a full information popup. Inside a category menu you get a short tooltip.

Settings and notifications
Settings opens MoBar's preferences, where you manage shortcuts, appearance and your license.
The bell shows a notification when an update or announcement is available.
